According to medical research it is possible to die from a broken heart
Heartbreak, pain and sadness can take a huge toll both emotionally and physically. Heartache in fact is the ultimate form of sadness which can last forever. Take for example the story of Romeo and Juliet, lovers who were willing to die for each other. If the mind and our thought patterns are a product of our own physiology as scientists believe then isn’t it safe to say that one could die of a broken heart?
Love is a strong emotion which is why heartbreak is an extreme condition. In fact broken heart syndrome also has a scientific term called takotsubo cardiomyopathy. The condition afflicts women more than men and is related to an extreme level of stress.
1 What research has to say about the subject?
According to the UK charity British Heart Foundation, 3/4th of people diagnosed with the condition experience sever emotional and physical stress that leads to becoming unwell. It isn’t a myth and one can die of a broken heart.
Researchers at Harvard Women’s Health Watch say that the actual causes are not known but experts feel that the increase of stress hormones released during the condition somewhat stun the heart triggering changes in the coronary blood vessels that prevents the heart’s left ventricle from contracting and performing effectively.
