Woman suffering from Rapunzel Syndrome is operated upon but what doctors removed from her stomach is shocking
It isn’t only dogs who can be found chasing their tails and biting off large clumps of hair, Humans too have the strange disorder that displays the conditions of two medical problems called Trichotillomania or pulling out ones hair and trichophagia where one eats their own hair. A woman with Rapunzel’s syndrome as the disorder is called is an anxiety related condition that can actually lead to hair build up in the digestive tract.
It was because of this that 23 year old Sophie Cox finally underwent surgery to remove a huge hairball in her stomach.
1 Anxiety led her to an unusual condition
As a woman with Rapunzel syndrome, Sophie suffered from anxiety and depression felt relieved each time she pulled out her own hair and even ate it in the process. As comforting as it was to Sophie who thought it harmless a hairball was slowly growing inside her stomach.
When Sophie was pregnant with her daughter she began experiencing severe pain and began to lose weight. Even after delivering her baby the pain didn’t stop. Oct 215, Sophie was in excruciating pain and began vomiting. N an interview she stated, “I’d lost [84 pounds] in two years and dropped six dress sizes, taking me to a size 12.”
