10 Everyday things whose purpose of being there you could never have guessed
8 The small pocket and rivets on your jeans
The small pocket first appeared on Levis in 1873 and was meant to hold pocket watches. It is still referred to as the watch pocket by Levi manufacturers. The rivets were meant to make the trousers sturdier as Jeans were first used by laborers with the material subjected to harsh conditions. The rivets prevented wear and tear and were a great hit among consumers.
9 The hole at the top of the cap on a ballpoint pen
Many are of the opinion that the hole prevents the cap from dislodging into the trachea which is untrue. Anything slipping down the trachea will cause the mucous membrane to swell. The cap is meant to prevent the cap from getting lodged into the mucous membrane of your oral cavity in case you decide for some freakish reason to slip the cap down the throat which is most likely if you have a habit of chewing on your pen while thinking what to write.
