Is the Moon Hollow? Here’s what scientists have found regarding the mysterious Moon
Conspiracy theories are fun to read, while outrageous claims of aliens inhabiting the earth or the moon for that matter constantly make their rounds on the net, some are even more absurd. Take former grandstand presenter David Icke for instance. He once claimed the royal family were reptile aliens. In 2016, he came out with another outrageous statement that the moon was hollow and was actually a ship inhabited by aliens. Was this worthy of being debunked entirely? Well it did give media that entertainment factor but consider this?? The theory of a hollow moon isn’t just attributed to David Icke, it’s larger than him.
The hollow moon theory or conspiracy as you may call it has its origins in science fiction from the time of HG Wells. The hollow moon hyptothesis or theory says that the moon is an artificial hollow structure. Now while there is no scientific evidence to support such a weird claim, a section of theorists and scientists too are basing their theories on a 1969 NASA experiment conducted on the moon and incredible data about the moons core.
1 The NASA experiment that pointed towards a hollow moon
Earth’s moon is indeed a mystery. It is an enigma and still the subject of ongoing research to uncover the fascinating mysteries about it. As Robin Brett a NASA scientist said, it seems easier to explain the non-existence of the Moon than its existence.” But now coming to the NASA experiment.
In 1969 NASA placed seismic sensors on the Moon’s surface. A stage 3 of the Lunar module Apollo 13 was made to crash into the Earth’s surface with a force equal to 11 tons of TNT. The experiment was conducted to observe the effects on earth. The intensity of the crash caused several lunar quakes and scientists observed that the moon reverberated like the massive ringing of a bell. Each time such an experiment was conducted, it would ring for several hours. This lead to a speculation of anomalies regarding the moon’s structure giving way to several theories about the moon. Some felt the moon was unnaturally light and did not have a core similar to earth. According to scientists, the concentration of mass on the moon is located at a series of points found below its surface.
