8 Artificial insemination
An artificial insemination program was carried out at SeaWorld that involved collecting sperm from male orcas after stimulation. However in only produced two births. After the movie blackfish which was a documentary investigating the death of an Orca trainer, SeaWorld finally ended the Orca breeding program in March 2016. Sea world remarked that the documentary was propaganda that was false and misleading.
9 Walruses and Penguins suffer similar fates
Obie a Walrus suffered severe stress of captivity. He displayed such alarming signs by regurgitating his food. He died in 2015 at the age of 28. Penguins fare no better and are kept in the Magic Landing enclosure which isn’t shielded from visitors. Visitors repeatedly throw garbage into the enclosure resulting in injury and illness for the penguins.
10 Protest against sea world
Students across America repeatedly protest SeaWorld’s inhuman treatment of animals. One such high school student Phoebe Goldstein petitioned to end orca shows in the park. She received over 62,000 signatures. In response to protests, SeaWorld stopped the San Diego Park’s theatrical killer whale experience in end 2016. The show will be replaced by a focus on the whale’s natural environment.
