1 The history of locks
Locks are essential to our and our home’s security. The earliest of locks was found in ruins of Nineveh, capital of ancient Assyria. It was found that Egyptians developed the wooden pin lock, which was made of a bolt, door fixture and a key for daily usage. The first usage of all metal locks started between the years of 870-900. It was designed by an Englishman and the key was invented by Theodore of Samos in 6th century BC. Romans used to wear keys as rings and keep their valuables in boxes which were locked with those keys. The modern variant of lever tumbler lock was perfected by Robert Barron in 1778 and was later modernized and used to this day. Click next to find out how to make a makeshift lock using a dinner fork.
