If you thought you may be doing something healthy by drinking diet soda, then think twice. The effects of diet soda are certainly bad for you. Susan E Swithers, PhD, professor of psychological sciences and behavioral neuroscientist at Purdue has warned about the dangers of artificial sweetners and non calorie sweeteners. Researchers have found that diet soda should be avoided as much as the sugar variety and here’s why.
1 What the study found
Due to pressure from public health authorities to acquire solutions to remedy the situation of obesity and chronic disease, industries in turn finds a lot at stake as it tries to dvelop and promote such supposedly healthy products. Even as government leaders and politicians attempt to place regulations on the availability and consumption of beverages, diet soft drinks are left out of these purviews because they are considered healthy.
Science needs to be taken into account where policy decisions are concerned and it is important that the public make their health decisions based on scientific evidence rather than what is written on labels. Dr Swither says that when they studied the effects of diet soda, they found shocking results.
