6 Construction Projects that were a colossal waste of money and resources
6 New South China mall
In 2005, Dongguan city saw the opening of the largest mall in the world. It has space for over 2000 stores, a food court and amusement facilities. It has many global sections and expected around 100,000 visitors daily, but sees less than 200.
The problem is the location; Dongguan is a city of 10 million people located in between of Hong Kong and Guangzhou. It is a place where cheap labors build all the things you see labeled Made in China and these people don’t have the money to spend in malls. Also the only way to reach the mall is by car, as the city has nonexistent public transport system.
The mall however is kept neat and clean and has a fulltime staff ready for the influx of visitors anytime.
