6 Unusual treatments for your Depression when nothing else works
4 Deep Brain Stimulation
This method too uses electric currents to target specific areas of brain. Initially used to treat Parkinson’s disease it’s an invasive treatment with electrodes being placed inside the head or chest surgically and treat deep depression and tremors. Since it is still in the experimental phase, not much is known about its efficacy or side effects yet.
5 Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
When all treatments of depression have failed, this method is used using magnetic fields to stimulate the target brain cells. The short intense magnetic pulse generates enough electric currents to activate those areas which are deemed less active due to prolonged depression. According to Mayo Clinic the treatment is non invasive and still in its initial stages of development.
